Tecwyn King from Waitara High School said:
"The Maori students greatly benefited as he connected with them quickly and helped develop their jams."
David Sims from Ruapehu College said:
"Many of the Maori students involved was engaged on many levels. Having a successful Maori role-model, at the very least, was important to the group. Karl was able to relate and connect with those students particularly well. The patience and encouragement proved an effective pedagogy, and I appreciated that Karl adapted to my style of management and supported the standards I expected. One of my students has some high anxiety issues, and in this environment, she was able to sing and grow in strength and confidence. Karl was not aware of this student's disposition, yet his natural demeanour allowed her to feel confident in his presence."
