About the Mentor

Neihana (Waikato, Ngati Porou, Ngapuhi) has been a vocalist with reggae powerhouses 1814 since 2012. With a strong foundation in kapa haka in Christchurch, he moved to Rotorua in 2008 to attend the Waiariki Institute of Technology Academy of Singing and Music.

Neihana is passionate about music and culture and is a Te Reo speaker - an ideal combination of attributes for our programme! He has mentored for a number of schools in the Bay of Plenty, Napier and the Waikato.

Teacher Fiona Raine from Otorohanga College says,

"The majority of students were Maori and really connected with Neihana. They were nervous about performing in front of him but it was also an honour for them. He was able to keep at their level but also set high expectations for them. He was very positive in his feedback to them, which gave them more confidence. "
