LOOPnews: The Best Kind of Summer Sunday

November 21st 2011

TUBORG SUMMER SUNDAY!
Most music festivals don't give a second thought about their impact on the environment but a new festival happening on Auckland Anniversary Weekend 2012 will bring together the best a NZ summer has to offer - lush native surrounds, some of the county's most progressive live acts and some cool sustainable initiatives.
Happening at Matakana Music Mountain - only 45 minutes drive North of Auckland - the inaugural Summer Sunday music festival and coastal cleanup comes with some innovative impact reducing twists.

THE LINE UP:
Boasting one of the most stunning line-ups on the festival calendar, Tuborg Summer Sunday will feature eight superb homegrown bands including:
Kora, Fly My Pretties, Little Bushman, Tahuna Breaks, Electric Wire Hustle, The Nudge, AHoriBuzz and @Peace.
With Tahuna Breaks and Kora lined up to release highly anticipated albums in the upcoming months, festival-goers will be treated with the rare chance to hear new and unreleased materiel.
The festival will also exclusively host Fly My Pretties. Having just reunited for the fourth time, the platinum selling collective are set to perform their only show outside of their current November 2011 tour. With a trail of rave reviews following them across the country during their current tour, festival-goers will get the chance to witness the collective's much talked about new show, complete with the full 16-piece cast, costumes and visual backdrop - while surrounded by native bush.
Renowned crowd pleasers Little Bushman will bring their symphonic cacophony of detailed sound and will take their recently released album Te Oranga to soaring new heights.
While burgeoning acts The Nudge, Electric Wire Hustle, AHoriBuzz and @Peace are all set to break through as the next wave of kiwi talent and round out the impressive line-up.
The Nudge is fast becoming the stuff of folklore; uniting just over a year ago they've already delivered blistering performances to punters from the Catlins to Auckland and released their debut album Big Nudge Pie.
Electric Wire Hustle's unique sound is spear headed by the hypnotizing Mara TK on vocals and their twist on modern psychedelic soul has seen them play 20 shows in Europe this year.
AHoriBuzz is the solo project and brainchild of the enigmatic Aaron Tokona (Weta, Cairo Knife Fight), a jam band of sorts, you never quite know how things are going to roll when they take stage.
@Peace deliver a sound reminiscent of the hey-day of 90's independent rap with an intelligent blend of smooth beats, conscious lyrics, and impeccable flows.

SUSTAINABLE GOOD TIMES...
Multi award-winning charity, Sustainable Coastlines and Element magazine will be spearheading a range of initiatives to ensure the festival will have a positive impact on its beautiful surroundings.
A bustling eco village nestled amongst the native bush will be offering festival punters valuable and practical environmental information. It will also feature innovative ways to up-cycle materials consumed by festival goers, including top NZ glassblowers who will be showcasing their art form while diverting waste; and an on-site glass-cutting machine, which will create re-usable drinking glasses out of beer bottles.
To further minimise the festival's impact and give something back, a sustainable bus service will be running from central Auckland. During the bus trip, a stop off along the Matakana coast will allow passengers to stretch their legs, take a dip in the sea, roll up their sleeves and get involved in a quick coastal cleanup. Those driving to the festival are also urged to participate in the cleanup - and there's a good incentive too. For every sack of trash participants collect, they'll receive free beer tokens.

WIN! WIN! WIN!
