Rattle Records Upate 2/3/10
Warmest greetings from Rattle Records.
Keeping up the pace of changes that kicked off 2010 for us, we are very pleased to
announce that composer John Psathas has agreed to join us as a Director of Rattle
Records.
At Rattle, we enjoy working closely with composers and musicians. John's relationship
with the Composers Association of New Zealand, his on-going work as an educator at
Victoria University and the NZ School of Music, the cross-genre nature of his music
(extending from classical through rock, jazz and world music), and his extensive network
of contacts both here and abroad will enhance Rattle's ability to identify and work with
the best of local talent, and to better present our music to the world.
In the meantime, we are readying two albums for release. The first is the beautiful and
captivating Ukiyo, which features Portuguese percussion maestro, Pedro Carneiro.
This album is percussion-based, and while it contains moments of explosive energy
characteristic of John's work (particularly in the extended chamber ensemble, Psyzygysm),
overall Ukiyo projects an intimacy and moodiness that reveals another side to John's music.
The album will be released on 16 April 2010 to coincide with the world premier of John's
Marimba Concerto, Djinn, which was jointly commissioned by Pedro and Wellington's
Vector Orchestra. It will be performed by the Vector Orchestra, conducted by Marc Taddei,
with Pedro as soloist.
We are also very proud to announce the up-coming release of Flourishes, the follow-up to
NZTrio's 2007 Rattle album, bright tide moving between. Flourishes is a beautifully realised
collection of pieces by Mozart, Pärt and Ravel, which sit alongside NZTrio commissions by
Eve de Castro-Robinson and I Wayan Gde Yudane. The album will be released in mid-April
to coincide with NZTrio's ten-city tour organised by Chamber Music New Zealand.
Both Flourishes and Ukiyo will be available for purchase at a special pre-release price from
the Rattle website by the end of March.
Regards,
Steve Garden and Keith Hill
