This Saturday: Star-studded Lineup to Pay Tribute to Dave McArtney
The big guns of New Zealand music come out in force to farewell a friend.
A star-studded lineup of who's who of New Zealand music gather at the Powerstation in Auckland on Saturday night November 2nd to honour friend and fellow musician, Dave McArtney, who died in April, aged 62.
"All Around This Town: A Tribute to Dave McArtney" promises to be a memorable and moving send-off to the co-founder of Hello Sailor and the man who penned the iconic Kiwi song "Gutter Black" as well as other classics such as "Virginia" "I'm In Heaven" "Pink Flamingo" "Infatuation" and "Is That The Way" for his own band The Pink Flamingos.
Among the musicians and performers putting their own spin on McArtney classics are Dave Dobbyn, Shona Laing, Jordan Luck, Andrew Fagan, Peter Urlich, Hammond Gamble, Debbie Harwood, Mike Chunn, Buzz Moller, Dianne Swann, and Riqi Harawira, plus an absolute powerhouse of New Zealand musical talent, including Paul Woolright and Rick Ball, and original members of the Pink Flamingos.
Hello Sailor perform with Dave Dobbyn and Tim McArtney (Dave's nephew) plus Johnny Lyon on guitar duties, filling the huge hole left by Dave as the twin guitarist to Harry Lyon in the Sailor line up. Among the many highlights of the evening will be a new song penned by Graham Brazier dedicated to Dave titled, "Waiting Around The Bend".
The show will be hosted by Karyn Hay and Peter Urlich, and marks the official limited edition release of the posthumous album ‘Nomad's Land', completed shortly before Dave's death. The evening will also include a short on-stage auction of some precious estate items of memorabilia and art, including several guitars from Dave's personal collection.
"All Around This Town" promises to include plenty of show-stoppers and will be a rock ‘n' roll tribute from friends and fans alike to the incomparable Dave McArtney, one of New Zealand's finest guitarists and songwriters.
