Aotearoa New Zealand will be under the spotlight in Germany at the Frankfurt Book Fair - the world's largest publishing event - in October this year.

Aotearoa New Zealand will be under the spotlight in Germany at the Frankfurt Book Fair - the world's largest publishing event - in October this year.

As the official guest of honour at the five-day fair, New Zealand will occupy an impressive pavilion showcasing Kiwi creativity and culture to a potential audience of more than 300,000 visitors, journalists and exhibitors from 110 countries.

New Zealand's Guest of Honour role began on Sunday 16 October 2011, when Iceland handed over the title. As Guest of Honour New Zealand will bring our own kind of hosting and sharing, manaakitanga, to the New Zealand pavillion. Experience our unique cultural offering of literature, art, dance, music, food and wine as our guests in 2012.

As we head towards the official launch of the book fair, on October 10th, New Zealand arts, culture and cuisine take center stage with events designed to show off our talent begin. As everyone knows no party is complete without some musical accompaniment... and with that thought here's a listing of the events over the next few days those visiting Frankfurt can enjoy at the New Zealand Pavilion:

October 9: The official opening of the New Zealand Pavilion will feature performances by Kiwi singers Aivale Cole and Sarah Castle, the champion kapa haka group Te Matarae I Orehu, the Tatau Pacific Dance Group and Pacific Poets Courtney Meredith and Ole Maiava.

October 10 - 13 : Happy Hour with Ria Hall & Puawai Cairns / Te Matarae I Orehu

A performance by Ria Hall & Puawai Cairns at the New Zealand Pavillion.

Ria Hall is is an exciting new voice on the contemporary New Zealand music landscape. Creatively informed by west coast hip-hop, vintage reggae, classic soul, dancehall ragga and modern beat music, she presents a fresh and vibrant perspective as both a young Māori woman, and as a cutting edge, 21st century singer and artist.

Ria will be accompanied by guitarist Puawai Cairns.

Oct 11 - 13: Making Baby Float: Poetry of Bill Manhire with Musicians

Poet Bill Manhire is renowned for raising New Zealand's international poetry profile and establishing the prestigious creative writing school The International Institute of Modern Letters.

His poems and lyrics have been set to music by jazz musician, Norman Meehan, Associate Professor of Jazz at the New Zealand School of Music.

Sung by Hannah Griffin and together with the clarinettist, Colin Hemmingsen and Norman Meehan, the trio will create a magical harmony between words and music.
