A great song has the power to connect with millions - to make us dance, to make us think, to tell our stories and to bring us together. The APRA Silver Scroll Awards honour the craft of songwriting, recognising the hard work that goes into shaping exceptional songs.

Entries are open for the 2015 APRA Silver Scroll Awards, including entries for:

• APRA Silver Scroll Award - for contemporary popular music
• APRA Maioha Award - celebrating outstanding songwriting in te reo Māori
• SOUNZ Contemporary Award - recognising inspired contemporary composition
• APRA Best Original Music in a Feature Film
• APRA Best Original Music in a Series
Entries for all awards close at 5pm on Monday 8th June.

The winner of the prestigious APRA Silver Scroll Award will join past winners and some of New Zealand's most iconic songwriters, including Ray Columbus, Sharon O'Neill, Dave Dobbyn, Neil Finn, Bic Runga, Ella Yelich O'Connor & Joel Little, and last year's winners Joshua and Tami Neilson. The winner also receives a $5000 cash prize, and takes the coveted APRA Silver Scroll Award trophy into their care for eleven months.

The winner of the APRA Silver Scroll Award is decided by APRA's membership of songwriters and composers; it is New Zealand's only peer-voted music award. All entries to the award are first narrowed down to a long-list by a panel of five prominent APRA members, which are then voted on by the wider APRA membership of over 10,000 New Zealand songwriters and composers. The votes of the wider APRA membership determine the winner of the Silver Scroll Award, as well as the five finalists.
