Free Event Management Programme Launched for Teens
A new programme has been launched to help teenagers learn the ins-and-outs of event management
A new programme has been launched to help teenagers learn the ins-and-outs of event management. The freshly conceived ignite programme is an Auckland-based 15-week course commencing next March for young people with a passion for music and events. Enrolments are open to people between 15-18 years of age.
ignite was established to support the personal and professional development of young people, giving them a stepping stone to further education pathways and discover the various careers that exist within New Zealand's vibrant creative industries. Through the programme, ignite will engage the wider community by producing truly authentic youth events - run by young people for young people, and creating key performance opportunities for young and emerging artists. By investing in the next generation of music industry professionals with mentorship and practical experience, ignite will create a sustainable model to produce more high-quality all ages events in Auckland, and eventually nationwide.
The programme includes one-on-one mentoring from a music industry professional, seminars and workshops, as well as hands-on experience. At the end of the programme, participants will put their skills to the test by producing a music-based event under guidance of their mentors and the ignite team. On top of that, one deserving participant will be awarded the ignite Scholarship to study a Diploma in Music and Event Management at MAINZ (must meet entry criteria).
There are 10 placements available for 2016, and there is no cost to participate in the programme.
ignite in 2016 is made possible with support from Music and Audio Institute of NZ (MAINZ), NZ Music Commission and the Ministry of Youth Development.
