Structuring and Taxation for Record Labels and Music Mangers

IMNZ, New Zealand Trade and Enterprise and WHK Business Growth are banding together to
make possible fully funded business training for the music industry.
 
Learn how to structure your music business activities simply and effectively through this practical half
day workshop!
 
Course content includes:
• Factors, including taxation and risk management that need to be considered when
determining appropriate ownership structures for music managers and their artists. (e.g.
partnerships, companies, sole traders and trusts)
• Overview of common tax deductions available for small to medium sized businesses e.g.
Home Office and Motor Vehicle, Entertainment etc 
• Dealing with and managing provisional tax
• Standard royalty and mechanical payments from labels to artists 
o    What can/can’t be recouped?
o    What is the place of promo copies of CDs – and what payments are due to
artists regarding these? 
• Agreements for multiple shareholders/partnerships which provide a mechanism for setting
boundaries for peoples actions, disagreements and entitlements
• Brief overview of taxation implications when doing business offshore
Participants are eligible for one-on-one follow up coaching after the workshop to discuss ways of
implementing what they have learned from the workshop into their business.
