The Ministry of Education funds this programme and all targets have been surpassed and outcomes achieved. 1200 Students have been engaged in one on one mentoring with these professional musicians and many thousands have benefited with the resulting performances and engagement with a musician in their schools. Outcomes for those of you who are still with us... include: Addressing the principles and desired outcomes of the Ministry's Ka Hikitia - Managing for Success initiative; Addressing the principles and desired outcomes of the Pacifika Action Plan that is Presence - Engagement - Achievement ... (3 big ticks for the programme there!) Achievement in recording and the production of original material. Participation in an event performing original material, Understanding of music industry roles, key organisations and career paths, Achievement and Unit Standards in schools where these goals are set. And there are not just the learning outcomes...
"One particular student struggles to get to school regularly. After these sessions he joined a band and is a regular attendee" (Teacher, Hastings)
We look forward to the 2010 year, Maisey Rika, winner of the best solo female artist award in the recent national Waiata Maori Music Awards, joins the mentoring team in early February at two Kura in the Wellington area in the first week of term. Chris, the Head of Department at the Kura where she will initially work, described her as his students "Idol". These students are already looking forward to returning to school in 2010!

It's going to be another great year!
