Music Commission Mentors Make Waves at 2011 Music Awards

The Waiata Awards in Hastings were like a Music Commission 'Musicians Mentoring in Schools reunion.'

Betty-Anne from Ardijah recieved recognition with the Music Industry Award, Anna Coddington and Mina Repia (Wai) jointly took out the Solo Artist Award, Huia Hamon's Tatou Tatou E Collective won the Urban Category, while many others who have mentored in schools including; Maisey Rika , Horomona Horo, Moana Maniopoto, and Anika Moa, were on stage as part of the show to screen later this Month on Maori Television.

Tyna Keelan & The Nok were awarded Best Maori Pop Album in Hastings and then went on later in the week to win the Maioha award for contemporary Maori music at the Apra Silver Scrolls. Popular music mentor Karoline Tamati (Ladi 6) narrowly missed top prize with her "Adults" collaboration ‘Nothing to lose".

The Music Commission is proud to offer such successful musicians and wonderful people as mentors to New Zealand schools, Pacifica Beats and Rockquest bands alike. We offer our sincere congratulations.
