BIGSOUND 2012 will be held in Brisbane Australia from the 12th to the 14th of September.

BIGSOUND, now in its 11th year, has a reputation as the best and most relevant music industry event in Australia. Produced by QMusic, it is positioned as Australia's most internationally focused conference. The event draws top national and international industry talent to Brisbane each year, forming a vibrant collection of musicians, buyers and industry experts to create an environment of new music discovery.

The following New Zealand acts have been selected by BIGSOUND to play the 2012 event: Eden Mulholland, Transistors, Tom Lark, Cairo Knife Fight, and Sola Rosa.

Eden Mulholland

Eden Mulholland has had a less conventional path in music - as a former contemporary dancer, Eden has a unique and experimental approach to composition - the results of which are often challenging, satisfying and dramatically charged. Vocally a bit of a chameleon and with a weird back catalogue of music written for theatre and dance, Eden does his take on pop music of the future; complete with strange voices, ripped apart rhythms and momentary flashes from ethereal orchestras. Eden is also the singer and writer for pop group Motocade.

Transistors

The Transistors are a power pop band from Rangiora, in the South Island of New Zealand. The three members met at Rangiora High School and due to a common interest in 70's punk and 60's pop and a lack of anything else to do they formed a band. Since then the band has released their debut album Shortwave in 2009, the Flux Pentaphile EP in 2010 and have played countless shows up and down the country.
For Transistors, every show is important, and so every show deserves as much as energy as is humanly possible. For this band everything goes to eleven.

Tom Lark

Tom Lark is a Christchurch based artist with an ear for melody and a penchant for transforming noise into revolutionary tunes. His Tom Lark EP released in July 2011, is a collection of sunlight starved tunes composed in musty, jungle like bedroom conditions of the quake ravaged city. The tracks showcase the ingenuity of unconventional sounds blended with unadulterated pop melodies.

Cairo Knife Fight

Though New Zealand's Cairo Knife Fight is only comprised of two men, between the tom-tom attack of drummer/lead vocalist/bass synth man Nick Gaffaney and the blood-drenched axe work of guitarist and loop pedal genius Aaron Tokona this duo deliver a tidal wave of complete sound that is both hallucinatory and imbued with an intense sense of urgency. This is well-practiced recklessness at it's best, and Cairo Knife Fight know just how far to push it before reigning in the assault. We suspect though at some point it's all going to go horribly wrong and some sort of mega-apocalyptic scenario involving power chords and drums will be unleashed. Prepare yourself now...this is one Fight you can't escape from.

Sola Rosa

Since Andrew Spraggon's first formative releases as Sola Rosa at the turn of the 21st century, he's steadily built a reputation for his deft synthesis of styles and quiet disregard for the niceties of genre boundaries. With a catch-all sound encompassing the best of hip hop, reggae, jazz, latin, soul and funk, all six of Sola Rosa's critically acclaimed albums are a potent distillation of the music that's influenced Spraggon over the course of his decade long career as a musician and producer. From a humble, self-released one-man project to a decidedly deadly live collective, Sola Rosa has grown from a national treasure into an act of truly international repute.
