NZM June/July Issue Out Now - to Read or Not to Read

July 2nd 2010
Wherefore art thou NZM followers? Forsooth, get thee to thine local NZM stockist for the 2010 June/July issue of NZM is well upon us!

True, it's not the typical next-generation-rock'n'roll-star kind'a NZM cover, but the two geezers at left must rate amongst the most creative/learned musical team in the land - and with just a bit of good fortune we reckon they may challenge our beloved Neil for outstanding international musical success in years to come. Former Screaming Meemees members Peter van der Fluit and Michael O'Neill  have translated Romeo and Juliet - the greatest love story ever told, into a Kiwi concept album-turned-rock opera. It's a great story (their's that is), one of almost unimaginable potential. NZM talked to the pair shortly before they flew to London where Andrew Llloyd Webber himself gave their work two thumbs up.

Speaking of the NEW generation (or should we say Young Blood), just weeks before making their debut on the NZ singles chart in pole position The Naked and Famous sat down for a revealing chat about their forthcoming and still yet-to-be-released first album. And there's lots more young stuff in this tall, dark and ahh, handsome issue.  Young Sid gives us a behind the scenes tour of his sophomore release 'What Doesn't Kill Me'; three Plutonian's introduce their new supergroup - Nightchoir; Indie folkster Flip Grater  talks break up albums and her new "dream band" over some tasty Neatoaf; Lewis McCallum trades in his horn for a new kind of 'Syntheology';  Wellington's drumming improviser extraordinaire Anthony Donaldson gets his experimentalist kit off; we give you an insider's guide to getting your music played and talked about in London town... and a breathless load more delectable features to curl up with during these cold winter nights.

The freshest Fresh Cut album and EP reviews are up now over at nzmusician.co.nz. For the gear-heads and spenders we sent songstress Lisa Crawley out on a blind date with a Casio Privia Digital Piano; four small Studio Monitors get the once over from well-known recording engineer Zed Brookes; we find out exactly how the Polytune poly-chromatic tuner works its magic and the Peavey Vypyr Tube Modelling amp goes under Mark Bell's gatscope. But soft, what light through...  NZM's latest Fresh Talent range from a law student/rapper to tomahawk-weilding, spirit-possesed trio from Pukerua Bay. And yet there is more! So, make haste dear reader and get thee prompt to a copy of NZM's latest.
