NZM Newsletter June/July & Giveaways!
The June/July 2011 issue has flown out NZM's door just in time to cure the onset-of-Winter blues.
Grab a copy from one of our many stockists and curl up in front of your fire (or column heater) with another issue packed to the brim with Kiwi music tales and industry insights.
Inside, our razor-free cover-star Liam Finn talks with typical candour to Lydia Jenkin about forming a band, touring and the recording of his sophomore offering 'FOMO'. "If this record just means that I make as new fans as much as I lose old fans, then I guess that's a good thing."
In a quirk of alt-pop convenience the issue closes with another Lydia Jenkin feature, this one about the excessively talented Jol Mulholland - who has his own album release with 'Eugene Told Me You Were Dead', and also just happens to be key part of Liam's international touring band.
Former Frontliner Nick Maclaren pins down his former hip hop band mate David Dallas to get the scoop on just how things are for going Dallas over in New York and his new online album 'The Rose Tint',
Mikee Prain, drummer of three-piece Die! Die! Die! gives a fabulous glimpse into the band's busy touring schedule On Foreign Soil, as they flit from Lille in France to NanChang in China in 10 hectic days. Issac Aesili to talks with Karl Puschmann about The Karlmarx Project an exploration of science fiction in collaboration with Mark McNeil. And there's heaps more, including some fine female fare with West Coast country folkster Katie Thompson, Auckland bedroom muso Princess Chelsea and the hilariously harmonious sibling trio The Sami Sisters.
All that plus a whopping six Fresh Talent acts, plenty of coverage and explanation of NZ On Air's all-encompassing new Making Tracks music/video funding scheme - including criticism from one former NZ On Air CEO - reviews of the raging Ibanez Tube Screamer amplifier and the very flash high-tech myMix mersonal monitoring system plus a typically huge batch of local album and EP releases.
Wanna feel the real thing? Annual subscriptions to NZ Musician (six issues) are available within New Zealand for a mere $25. Email info@nzmusician.co.nz for the details.

As reported in NZM's February/March issue, Kapiti Coast musician and guitar pedal manufacturer Ben Fulton is making plenty of noise with the release of his shiny new Red Witch rechargable effects pedals. Great to see him also getting coverage in the Business section of the NZ Herald this week, with Gill South reporting that the Seven Sisters range of lithium ion cell pedals has already pre-sold 4900 units (mostly to the US) ahead of the official launch next month.
