WOMEX 2009 Takes Off
Over 2,800 delegates from 90 different countries are currently descending on Copenhagen for the start of Womex 2009.
Womex is the premier and largest World music trade fair on the planet. This year Womex takes place in Copenhagen and features a 4 day conference with seminars, mentoring and training, a Film Market, a Trade Fair and Showcase programmes.
With over 1,000 concert & festival bookers, 750 lables & distributors, 850 managers and 310 international journalists, Womex becomes the epicentre of the world music each October. Every year it moves to a diffrent European location, and this year Denmark is the destination of choice.
The Music Commission in partnership with Creative NZ are once again providing the Kiwi presence in the trade show hall with the New Zealand stand. There are a number of New Zealand musicians, labels and managers present as well including Nigel Braddock of Monkey Records (An Emerald City , The Benka Boradovsky Bordello Band, Meera Raghu, et al), Rebecca Caughey of Funktion Music (Ladi6 , Recloose and Shapeshifter), Scott Grafton of Grafiti Entertainment (Batucada Sound Machine), Pacific Curls, and Sol de Sully (Te Vaka, Mamaku Project and Moana & the Tribe).
