Dateline Release 'Dumb for My Age' Single & Video

June 10th 2021
Dateline is the musical project of Katie Everingham (she/her), a musician and songwriter currently based in Heretaunga (Hastings).

Her band is made up of the cream of Tāmaki Makaurau’s (Auckland) indie and alternative crop featuring Callum Devlin (he/him, Hans Pucket), Priya Sami (she/her, Bub) and Ruby Walsh (she/her Lips).

Dateline's music oozes emotion by blending earnest harmonies that hark back to early 00's indie pop, with the cool burn of UK guitar groups from the 90s. Special note must be made of Everingham's lyricism, as she encapsulates the mixed feelings and insecurities that arise from getting older.

Today she shares Dumb For My Age, the first single from an album planned for release early in 2022.

"Dumb For My Age is about trying to be an adult and trying to go about things the right way but feeling like a bit of a kid and an imposter underneath it all." says Katie.

The song was tracked with Callum Passells (Hans Pucket, Saxobros), mixed by Jonathan Pearce (The Beths) and mastered by Oliver Devlin (Hans Pucket).  Katie reflects on the process "Working with Jono, Callum and Oli on this song was a treat. They're all so clever at what they do and made the process so easy and fun for me which is super important seeing as I often have the drive of a snail."

The video for Dumb For My Age was made by the creative duo Sports Team, with help from NZ On Air Music.

Sports Team's Annabel Kean described the clip as a "Well overdue an homage to filmmakers Joe Johnston (Honey, I Shrunk the Kids) and Peter Hewitt (The Borrowers). We put our VFX skills to the test and tiny-fied Dateline. Our sole direction for the mini band was to look as smug, peppy and annoying as possible, so that highfalutin Katie's fury was well fuelled."

To celebrate the release of Dumb For My Age, Dateline are traveling throughout Te Ika A Maui (North Island) throughout the month of June.

Their first appearance will be at Festival Of Sunreturn, happening this Saturday at Whammy, Wine Cellar and Backroom.

They then travel to Te Whanganui-a-Tara (Wellington) to support Wax Chattelsalong with Soft Plastics at San Fran Bath House on the 18th. The following night they travel to Heretaunga (Hastings) to perform at the Common Room with Double Ya D & The Cosmic Hags

Their final stop will be back in Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland) at The Wine Cellar on June 26 with Treenurse and Benjamin Locke
