Smokefree Tangata Beats Winners '78 District' Release Debut Single
Described by the band as 'a funky RnB jam that acts like medicine to those dealing with life's problems', Vieni e Balla is the debut single by District 78. The 10 piece band, from Papatoetoe High School, took out the national 2019 Smokefree Tangata Beats competition.
About the song, singer Silika Isaia says "Vieni e Balla has a very catchy riff that is like honey to the ears. It is a vibe that will get people moving!"
The track uses 5 languages - Samoan, English, Tongan, Danish, and the title means come and dance in Italian. The band hopes to reflect the unity that comes from diversity through their use of language through the track.
The full line-up of 78 District is Silika Isaia (vocals), Gabby Faapuea (vocals), Mathew Maa (bass), Peaches Peters (guitar), Russell Sega (keyboard), Afereti Tuumatavai (drums), Cathrine Holst (saxophone), Marine Tiria (saxophone), Fe'ofa'aki Paea (brass), Ozarius Tu'ua (guitar).
