VNZMA Critics Choice Prize This Week

November 4th 2013
The three 2013 contenders perform a live showcase at The Kings Arms in Auckland on November 6 before the prize recipient is announced on the night.

The 2013 line-up for the Critics’ Choice Prize includes multi-instrumentalist Daniel McBride aka Sheep, Dog & Wolf; US-based singer/songwriter Janine and the Mixtape; and Paquin – the musical outlet of songwriter Tom Healy, who will all take to the stage this Wednesday at a show which is open to the public.

The night contains three 30 minute performances by each of the shortlisted artists. After all three acts have performed, in a final attempt to sway the judges, they will deliberate and finally the winner will be announced.

Established in 2010, the prize recognises up-and-coming artists and potential future Tui winners. Past Critics’ Choice Prize nominees include Kimbra and The Naked and Famous.

The Hallenstein Brothers Critics Choice Prize 2013 Showcase recognises an artist that a panel of top music industry critics believe is on track to becoming a Kiwi music success story and potentially a future Tui winner.

These artists must not have released an album prior to or during the 2013 VNZMA eligibility period and not been a finalist at any stage for any Vodafone New Zealand Music Award.

10k grant from NZ On Air toward a single recording or a music video
