Artists performing @ CMJ 2013:

Tiny Ruins
The project of musician and songwriter Hollie Fullbrook Tiny Ruins explores the traditions of folk and blues music, creating a sound that is at once accessible, strange and moving. 2010's full-length album Some Were Meant for Sea was well received throughout the globe and earned 4 stars in Mojo (UK). A headline tour ensured as well as support slots on tours with such notables as Beach House, Father John Misty, Joanna Newsom and Fleet Foxes. A new EP Haunts, was released earlier this year and Tiny Ruins is currently on tour with Calexico through October.

Black City Lights
A duo comprised of wunderkind producer Calum Robb and power-house vocalist Julia Catherine Parr Black City Lights's music contains dark voices, neon beats, and ghostly electronics. With traces of Austra, Zola Jesus, and The XX, the debut EP Parallels was released last year via Brooklyn based record imprint, Stars & Letters. Having polished their live set by supporting the likes of Grimes, Baths, and Van She, Black City Lights are now kicking off a 3-month, coast-to-coast tour of the United States in September to support their recently released debut full-length, Another Life.

Electric Wire Hustle
A group whose sound employs a forward thinking blend of hip hop, jazz and soul, plus a whole lot of groove. With their 2009 released self-titled debut, Electric Wire Hustle achieved a number one song on Hype Machine as well as a five-star review from music taste-maker Okayplayer, who proclaimed that "this is the best, most exciting R&B, soul, electronica, whatever you want to call it, record I've heard this year." Having BBC Radio support from Gilles Peterson and Benji B helped to propel international interest and fandom for the group. Demand for their live show has seen EWH perform in 14 countries, appearing at festivals such as Glastonbury, Dour, Sonar, Sziget, SXSW and now CMJ.

Streets Of Laredo
Indie Folk outfit Streets of Laredo have a sound that is completely current yet completely timeless. Though hailing from down under, this self-described "family circus of gypsies & ragamuffins" now resides in Brooklyn, NY. Although at its core Streets of Laredo are a quintet, you never quite know what you'll get at a Streets show. Guest performers & collaborators (usually from their adopted home of Bushwick) are a common occurrence with the crowd being an active participant and contributor to the live experience. The group has just released their debut EP, titled Streets Of Laredo Vol 1 and was recently named winner of the Adult Album Alternative category of the 2013 Unsigned Only Music Competition.

Ghostwave
The Ghost Wave sound finds itself somewhere between the Flying Nun bands of the 80s, the British explosion of the 1960s and the wayfaring dubs of Lee "Scratch" Perry. Sunny, loud, and laid back... Their debut LP, Ages was recorded and produced by the band themselves around Auckland and mixed by Thomas Bell (The Clean, David Kilgour) in Dunedin, NZ. It's an album that The Fader summed up as "jangly tunes made for good company." Ghost Wave's album is the first release from the seminal New Zealand label Flying Nun since partnering with Captured Tracks in the U.S.
