Band Together - Concert for Canterbury

October 22nd 2010
A VERY SPECIAL GIFT TO THE PEOPLE OF CANTERBURY FROM THE ARTISTS OF NEW ZEALAND October 23, Hagley Park, Christchurch 11am-8pm

Thirty three of New Zealand's hottest music acts have now been confirmed
for the biggest FREE concert New Zealand has ever seen.

BAND TOGETHER - a gift to the people of Canterbury in the wake of the
earthquake - will be staged at Hagley Park on Saturday, October 23.

Kiwi music stars including Anika Moa, Bic Runga, Che Fu, Dane Rumble, Dave
Dobbyn, J Williams, King Kapisi, Nathan King, Dame Malvina Major, Julia
Deans, Ray Columbus and Dinah Lee will be joined in the lineup by
supergroups including Dukes, Evermore, The Exponents, The Feelers, Minuit,
Midnight Youth and Opshop. All are giving their time and talent free to
entertain Cantabrians.

"Everyone's been affected in some way and it's great that music can help
at least bring some well-deserved happiness," Jeremy Redmore, Midnight
Youth

The massive event will begin at 11am and run through to 8pm and will be
broadcast on television and radio throughout. The event has been made
possibly only through the generosity of the artists banding together with
New Zealand business. Any money leftover from sponsorship will be paid
into the Zealand Red Cross Canterbury Earthquake Appeal. Canterbury media
personalities JASON GUNN and SIMON BARNETT will MC the event while some
very special guests will be seen throughout the day. Prime Minister John
Key will also be there.

Canterbury stalwarts The Exponents are reforming for the event, their
song, Christchurch (In Cashel St. I Wait), is the theme song of the
concert.

Organisers, Opshop's Jason Kerrison and NZ music industry personality Paul
Ellis say the concert is a chance for Cantabrians to come together in the
wake of the earthquake and aftershocks that have struck the region since
September 4.

"It's a day to reconnect with your friends and family, enjoy the best of
New Zealand music, and just have a great time," says Ellis.

Both are extremely appreciative of the talent who have put up their hands
to help.

"It's a fantastic mix of artists and we're so lucky that so many have been
able to make themselves available for this," says Kerrison.

"The amount of talent that is going to be on that stage is extraordinary,"
says Ellis.

"Band Together is part of a solution, where I could bring my skills to the

"A natural disaster of this scale generates much stress and disharmony. A
large community event like this will be great for bringing people together
to celebrate what's amazing about Canterbury and its people."
