Kia ora koutou -encourage yourself, your friends and other school students in your life, to get busy re the NZMM 2011 song...

If you are wondering where to start ... take a look at this year's winning song Made in New Zealand in our resource section and some of the students performing it. click here.
You might want to take a look at the Charlotte Yates guide to teaching songwriting in your classroom - it's at the bottom of the education page - in 3 parts so it will download more easily ... and you could try this approach if you don't know where to start...

The 4 students from Gisborne Girls' High School (who were this year's winners with "Made in NZ") had an amazing time, playing their song alongside OPSHOP in Gisborne 1 MAY, flying up and staying in an Auckland Hotel ,recording at Stebbing Recording Centre, being produced by the legendary Shona Laing, appearing on TV and getting their song sung by thousands of students around NZ... so have a go, it could be you in 2011!
(It's awesome also that we are still hearing about Made in NZ being regularly sung in lots of schools and that it is available online at amplifier.co.nz )

NZ Music Commission and MENZA (that's Music Education NZ - the music teacher's professional association) are keen to have a student write a new song for 2011 cos a bigger and even better Hook Line and Singalong event is planned for the 31st of MAY 2011. The criteria and entry form are here.
All top 10 entries in 2010 received prizes (and glory) and even the students who didn't make top ten told us how much they'd enjoyed writing their songs and what a great sense of achievement they felt.

The mail boxes (email and snail) will be cleared 11- 1-11 (11 January) and the competition closed so aim to have your song in end of this term. (Sorry, no year 13s can enter - you need to be at school in 2011).
