August 17th 2018
Four New Zealand artists have been selected for official showcases at BIGSOUND 2018 in Brisbane, Australia this September.

BIGSOUND 2018 will be held in Brisbane, Australia from the 4th to the 7th of September.

BIGSOUND, now in its 17th year, has a reputation as the best and most relevant music industry event in Australia. Produced by QMusic, it is positioned as Australia's most internationally focused conference. The event draws top national and international industry talent to Brisbane each year, forming a vibrant collection of musicians, buyers and industry experts to create an environment of new music discovery.

The following New Zealand acts have been selected by BIGSOUND to play the 2018 event: Estère, Miss June, The Beths and Wax Chattels.

Listen to a playlist to hear all four acts on Spotify or Apple Music.

Like a modern day mage, Estère's distinct brand of 'electric blue witch-hop' conceives a unique type of music. Both an artist and producer, Estère's dynamic performances have seen her open for the likes of Grace Jones and perform festivals in Europe, UK, Africa, Scandinavia, South Korea, Australia, and New Zealand.

Miss June

Miss June is a high-energy 4-piece monster led by Annabel Liddell. Having been described as "some unholy union between Sonic Youth and Le Tigre" they combine elements of punk, no-wave and rock creating melodic hooks and fast driven riffs that are immediately recognizable and entirely their own.

The Beths

The Beths channel longtime friendship into high-energy guitar pop with a smart lyrical bite. Their debut EP, 2016's 'Warm Blood', overflows with explosive guitar riffs and infectious indie-rock hooks. The Beths' freshman album, featuring title track 'Future Me Hates Me' and ‘Happy Unhappy', arrived on August 10th via Carpark Records.

Wax Chattels

Wax Chattels do not have a guitar player, though you wouldn't know it based on their overwhelming sound and energy. They create an atmosphere akin to a traditional loud power trio - using a keyboard, bass and 2-piece kit to create darkly hypnotic, frenetic music that's simultaneously sinister and rhythmically complex.
