Outward Sound Recipients Round 1 2011

Outward Sound is pleased to announce the 1st round of grant recipients for 2011. Eight grants were awarded, these include three Stage Two, three Stage One grants, and two Business Development grants.

Brooke Fraser - Stage 2.

Brooke Fraser was awarded a Stage Two grant to assist in the international launch of her single "Something In The Water" from her third album Flags. The launch will segue into Brooke's debut at South By Southwest, she will follow this with a tour of major markets in the US, UK and Europe.

Flags debuted in the US Billboard Hot 200 at #58 on the week of release.

Fat Freddy's Drop - Stage 2.

Fat Freddy's Drop was awarded a Stage Two grant to further develop their US business through a showcase tour including a prestigious appearance at the Coachella Music Festival in California .

Ladi6 - Stage 2.

Ladi6 receives a Stage Two Grant to support the release of her second album The Liberation Of... in Europe and the UK. Last year Ladi6 toured throughout Europe and the UK playing over 60 shows, gaining many new fans and much positive press. This year Ladi6 and her management will be relocating to Berlin for greater access to the European markets and to take full and prompt advantage of promotional and touring opportunities as they arise.

Zowie - Stage 1.

Following on from her highly successful showcasing appearances at The CMJ Music Marathon last year - where Zowie generated a significant amount of press including appearances in The New York Times and Paper Magazine- Zowie will build on this with further showcases at SXSW and in New York City. Whilst there she and her management will also be meeting with current and potential US business partners.

Street Chant - Stage 1.

A Stage One grant was awarded to Street Chant to support the release of their debut album Means in the US including multiple showcases at SXSW and New York City.

Ruby Frost - Stage 1.

A Stage One grant was awarded to Ruby Frost to capitalise on the momentum gained through last year's CMJ performances via showcases at The Viper Room and SXSW and continuing to develop the relationships made at CMJ.

Business Development Grants

The newly created Business Development Grant provides specific assistance to attend tradeshows (Midem, SXSW, CMJ, Big Sound etc) to improve and broaden international commercial links. The grant provides basic costs (Airfares, Accommodation, Per Diems) for one or two people traveling to a specific event.


Let The People Speak - Business Development Grant.

A Business Development Grant was awarded to Let The People Speak Management to attend the international music trade fair MIDEM. Let The People Speak manage Dane Rumble, Midnight Youth, Lisa Crawley, Artisan Guns among others and intend to promote and market them at MIDEM.

Arch Hill Recordings - Business Development Grant

A Business Development Grant was awarded to Arch Hill Recordings to attend SXSW. Arch Hill Recordings will be using the opportunity to promote their roster as well as overseeing the SXSW activities of three bands from his roster: Street Chant, Surf City and Family Cactus.
