SXSW 2011: It's a Wrap

March 23rd 2011
Year after year, South By Southwest is a launching pad for new creative talent. Music showcases, new media presentations, and film screenings provide buzz-generating exposure for creators and compelling entertainment for audiences.

This year the Naked and Famous headlined the traditional New Zealand showcase at Austin venue Brush Square Park with Street Chant, songstress Brooke Fraser, Liam Finn, Zowie and David Dallas also playing to a packed tent over the course of the three hour showcase.

Also in Austin were Battle Circus, Kids of 88, King Kapisi, and Surf City.

One of the highlights for a couple of our local acts, at least, would have to have been the invitation to play on famed blogger Perez Hilton's fourth installment of his musical showcase, "Perez Hilton's One Night in Austin Party." The party was held at the new ACL Live venue at Austin's new W Hotel. DJ Mia Moretti and Caitlin Moe entertained the audience between sets while Hilton introduced all acts which included our own Zowie (pictured above, photo credit: and Kids of 88.

This year's 25th anniversary has now wrapped for another year and whilst part of the kiwi contingent continue on with shows in and around the US the rest are headed back to NZ. For them all the real work is only beginning - making the most of the exposure and contacts made whilst at this year's SXSW.
