The South By Southwest Music & Media Festival (SXSW) 2013 will run from March 8th through March 17th and will see the music and entertainment world descend upon Austin Texas, and again New Zealand has a strong representation of artists making the journey south.

This year will see over 1900 bands play during the 6 festival days devoted to music in a multitude of venues in and around the world famous 6th street in downtown Austin, Texas. The conference attracts over 19,000 music professionals and fans alike from all over the world with a passion for music, music business and new technologies.

This year will feature the following New Zealand acts making the trek to Austin;

Characterized by a giant pair of lips on legs, Lips is the nom-de-plume of talented singer-songwriter Stephanie Brown. After receiving much respect from the blogosphere for her self-released song "Everything to me", in 2012 she released an EP "Look, Listen", and was awarded the Silver Scroll, New Zealand's most prestigious songwriting award.

A formidable keyboard player with a soft spot for vintage synths, Stephanie creates a unique sound, distinguished by simple, masterful arranging and a sly sense of humour. Whether it's loneliness or love, anger or happiness, she has a knack for capturing the bittersweet nuances of life and putting them to song.

Live, Stephanie is backed by the creative force of drummer Fen Ikner, and together they are a transfixing, must-see act.

Die! Die! Die!
Hailing from New Zealand's iconic music city Dunedin, founding Die! Die! Die! members Andrew Wilson and Michael Prain originally cut their teeth in local scene noise bands. In 2013, having spent the better part of a decade on the road worldwide, Die! Die! Die! is a band who these days bring far more than just "the noise" to live performance.

The unyielding ferocity and energy of Die! Die! Die!'s live delivery coupled with the heart-bursting melodies defining their songs have made Die! Die! Die! one of New Zealand's most celebrated and well-travelled acts.

Now joined by Michael Logie (The Mint Chicks), they follow up the European and Australasian legs of their tour supporting fourth album Harmony with a visit to SXSW.

Ghost Wave
Ghost Wave formed in Auckland, New Zealand in late 2010, and began their career playing local shows supporting bands like Times New Viking, The Clean, and Explosions In The Sky.

They released their debut self-titled EP in 2012, and had the chance to leave New Zealand for the first time when they travelled to the states to play CMJ 2012 and series of shows in Los Angeles, including stops at School Night @ Bardot and KXLU's Part Time Punks Party. Ghost Wave started out 2013 with a nomination for MTV IGGY'S Artist of the Week in addition to receiving some air play on Sirius XM's XMU station. Ghost Wave and are looking forward to returning to the States in March to play at 35 Denton and SXSW.

After a hugely successful year touring their EP 'Don't Worry, You'll Be Here Forever' in the US with Electric Guest, and the UK/Europe with Father John Misty, the end of 2012 saw NO heading back in to the studio to work on tracks for their forthcoming debut album. 2013 sees the return of NO to SXSW to showcase these exciting songs. NO is the brainchild of kiwi front man Bradley Carter.

Blending soul, rock, dubstep and drum and bass, Six60's music is dynamic, versatile and unexpected.

Sitting at over 150,000 fans on Facebook, the band have to their credit, one triple platinum single ‘Don't Forget Your Roots', one double platinum single 'Rise Up 2.0', two platinum singles ‘Only To Be' and ‘Forever' and a gold single ‘Lost' all this from their #1 triple platinum debut album, which is still in the NZ Top Twenty 16 months after release. At the 2012 NZ Music Awards they were the big winners on the night with 6 awards including Best Group, Single of the Year, Peoples Choice and Highest Selling Album.

Live is where they are in their element - only this summer they played to over 16,500 fans in just 7 dates. Six60 have built a strong audience overseas - without a single or album release they recently sold out 3 shows in London to over 3,000 people, 2500 people on their first Europe tour, and sold out 5 of their 9 shows in USA/Canada. In Australia they are now playing 1,500 - 2,000 plus venues

Their first foray into the USA saw their single ‘Forever' used on an Indie 500 story screened on ESPN and ABC and their music played on over 120 College Radio stations. In January ESPN used ‘Run For It' on many sports shows.

Also making an appearance at SXSW 2013 are Willy Moon and Unknown Mortal Orchestra.
