Venue of the Day - Blue Smoke

  • What drives you to bring live music to your area?
It is our goal to provide a welcoming and intimate concert environment in which people can experience performances from some of the finest acts touring New Zealand. We want to keep the culture of live music alive in Christchurch and by doing so support our diverse and 'world renown' local musicians to continue writing, creating and performing.

What days of the week do you have live music?
We specialize in ticketed concert events for local and touring musicians. We book shows that suit the space, these can happen on any day of the week but they usually happen Thursday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday.

Tell us about a favourite live music moment?
There have been so many. Most recently we gathered a whole plethora of local musicians together for a fundraising concert called 'HOW CAN I KEEP FROM SINGING?'. Artists such as Marlon Williams, Dark Tower, Holly Arrowsmith, Lindon Puffin and The Eastern (amongst many others) performed the songs of Pete Seeger and Woody Guthrie. We did this to create togetherness, a push against despair. We were able to raise over $10,000 in funds for victims and families affected by the events on March 15th 2019.

The highlight of this night for me was the big singalong backstage after the show. It was spontaneous and songs were sung late in to the night.

Please give us details of how and where people can find your venue?

The photo attached is from our Ten Good Rounds show back in 2016. This was an event we ran just prior to Christmas, all profits were donated to the City Mission. This show featured performances from The Warratahs, Delaney Davidson (Manos Del Chango), Lindon Puffin, Eb & Sparrow, The Eastern and Reb Fountain (we had plenty of special guests also)
