Venue of the Day - Wunderbar
What drives you to bring live music to your area?
As new owners of the Wunderbar we want to encourage great new talent and help emerging bands and performers to succeed. Some great artists have cut their teeth at the Wunderbar including Adam McGrath from The Eastern, Delaney Davidson, Marlon Williams, Aldous Harding and The Settlers. We've just put in a new stage and a fantastic sound system, where quality over quantity shall prevail (that's our motto).
What days of the week do you have live music?
Spontaneously every day. Open mic and Showcase on Tuesdays; From Wednesday to Saturday can be blues, rock, funk, punk or house, with Sunday being afternoon guitar vocals and soon some Sunday house sessions.
Tell us about a favourite live music moment?
When Shapeshifter went down and dirty with some old school heavy metal music at Pegasus Bay Winery, just as the rain began to fall. And seeing Prince and U2 live in Rotterdam.
Please give us details of how and where people can find your venue?
We're located in the quirky and creative town of Lyttelton, within Christchurch.
You can find us at 19 London Street, where we have in incredible harbour views and the weirdest, quirkiest interior (dolls-head lights anyone?). It's the most fabulous bar experience in NZ.
