About the Artist

A street wise urban Maori musician, AWA's honey-sweet vocals first hit the New Zealand airwaves with the multi platinum selling Polynesian super group Nesian Mystik that stormed the NZ charts with a record twelve Top 10 singles (Most in NZ history).

This success brought the group numerous awards including Best Urban Group Award (NZ Music Awards), Peoples Choice Award (NZ Music Awards), APRA Silver Scroll Award and MTV's Best Kiwi Act Award at the Vodafone MTV Australia Awards to name a few.

Native Intel was AWA's debut EP that reached Top 40 in the album charts. A significant milestone for NZ music as it's bilingual in Maori and English, delivering a message of culture and self-knowledge that features award winning Maori artists Maisey Rika and Maitreya. AWA also won 3 x Maori music awards for Native Intel, Best Maori Songwriter, Best Song and Best Maori male artist. AWA rocketed into the New Zealand Top 10 album charts with Heartbeat. Jam packed with hits like the duet with Hawaiian pop sensation Anuhea "Perfect Day", "Home" and "Back in my life" featuring reggae stars House of Shem. AWA has captured the hearts of the Pacific with his signature Native Soul.

As a solo artist AWA has had a successful multinational career recently earning a top ten NZ album with Heartbeat, significant radio play both in New Zealand and Hawaii and has written songs with artists from Australia, Japan, Hawaii and New Zealand. July sees AWA head to Hawaii to perform at the 2014 Mayjah Rayjah Festival.
