Bub share the video for ‘Bored’, the closing track from their debut album. The song sits in the aftermath of a breakup – that flat, uncertain place where you’re trying to move on but haven’t quite managed it yet.
The video was filmed at Charlie’s Bar on Karangahape Road, a space that has been central to many nights for director Chelsea Nikkel and Bub’s Priya Sami. With Charlie’s set to close in January 2026, they wanted to document the bar as it is. The video captures an intimate night with the band at Charlie’s, focusing on the familiar details of a bar that has hosted countless singalongs and late-night ballads.
Can’t Even, Bub’s debut album, has had a strong run since its release in May this year. ‘New Amsterdam’ was voted into the APRA Silver Scrolls Top 20, several singles spent weeks across the SRN Top 10 and alternative charts, and the band marked the album’s arrival with packed, high-energy release shows.
‘Bored’ serves as both a breakup song and a quiet nod to Charlie’s – a final document of a place that’s about to disappear.
The ‘Bored’ video will have its public screening, aptly,at Charlie’s Bar at 8PM on Thursday 11 December, with a power hour of karaoke to follow. Make a request. Go on!
Bub will also be announcing a secret show soon – keep an eye on their Instagram for details.

Bub is a boundary-pushing band from Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland, New Zealand, blending doo-wop harmonies with post-punk intensity.
Fronted by powerhouse vocalist and notorious karaoke-ist Priya Sami (vocals, guitar), alongside Daniel Barrett (bass), David Harris (drums), and Joe Kaptein (synths), BUB bring big hooks, sharp lyrics, and just the wrong amount of chaos to craft a sound that’s both infectious and unpredictable.
Bub’s debut album Can’t Even was released on May 9th, digitally and on vinyl. It’s packed with songs about love, heartbreak, and existential dread – but in a fun way. Whether you’re lovesick, over it, or both at the same time, there’s a song for you. If you’re into The Strokes, The Cars, or Mariah Carey (trust us, it works), you’ll want to take a listen.
You may have already heard some of the songs on Can’t Even: ‘Phase 2’, ‘Dreams’, ‘Bored’, ‘Jeez Louise’, ‘King of Wands’. and most recently, ‘New Amsterdam’ (which goes off live!!!).
“I turned up to Blam Blam Blam tonight with no idea who the support was – and it turned out to be Bub, the ‘Jeez, Louise’ band, and they were GREAT. Priya Sami has a lot going on, including the funniest banter in NZ music. If The Beths are a bit youth club, Bub are the smoking-behind-the-bike-sheds version.” – Russell Brown
Can’t Even is distributed on vinyl by The Collective, and is now available at your friendly local record store. The album’s digital distribution is courtesy of DRM.
