Today, Ōtautahi based indie rocker Mim Jensen announces her third EP The Muse, set for release on Friday 17 April, alongside a three-date Aotearoa tour this May.
The Muse is a deeply introspective body of work that traces the full arc of an intense relationship from its intoxicating beginnings through to its inevitable unravelling. Across the EP, Jensen captures the emotional push-and-pull of a love that is both transformative and consuming.
“The Muse explores the beginning and end of a relationship, the highs, the lows, and the kind of love that cracks you open,” Jensen explains. “It’s about being exposed to the darkest parts of yourself, and what it means to sit with that”.
Having already released student radio staples ‘Sidekick’, ‘Big Feelings’ and ‘The Mask’, the EP moves through moments of vulnerability and emotional turbulence, ultimately landing on a sense of clarity. Closing track ‘To Love Is (To Face The Heartbreak To Come)’ cements the project’s central idea: that some loves aren’t meant to last, but instead show up just to reshape us.
Rather than framing heartbreak as loss, The Muse positions it as a catalyst that reveals hidden parts of ourselves and leaves a lasting imprint. It’s a tribute to the kind of karmic, short-lived connection that disrupts patterns, deepens self-awareness, breaks us down but ultimately leaves us more whole.
In February 2026 Jensen played Electric Avenue, Australasia’s largest music festival. She has shared bills with indie heavyweights The Beths, Julia Jacklin and Bob Mould, quickly building a reputation as a formidable live performer, magnetic, enchanting and unvarnished, pulling audiences in and holding them there.
This May sees Jensen take her new EP on the road performing three headline shows beginning at Auckland’s Whammy Bar on Thursday 7 May, followed by Space Academy in Christchurch on Friday 29 May before wrapping up at Pearl Diver in Dunedin on Saturday 30 May.
Tickets to all dates are on sale now via Under The Radar.
Mim Jensen continues to carve out a space as one of Aotearoa’s most unique emerging voices, unafraid to explore the messiness of love, loss, and self-discovery. With The Muse, Jensen settles more firmly into her place among Aotearoa’s most compelling indie artists.
