For nearly a decade Cindy has been toiling in Tāmaki’s independent venues, leading Rolling Stone AUS/NZ to describe them as “the type of unpretentious, if-you-know-you-fucking-know, resolutely DIY band that rewards discovery.”
Cindy has supported international talent like OFF!, Mean Jeans and Japanese touring acts Guitar Wolf, Shonen Knife, King Brothers, ALKASILKA and Watusi Zombie. Where possible they’ve reciprocated the cultural exchange, traveling to tour Japan in 2018 and 2023. Cindy’s 2018 eponymous debut EP and two follow up singles (2020’s Big Energy and 2023’s B21) have amassed tens of thousands of streams and are a firm favourite on Aotearoa’s alternative radio stations. In 2025 Cindy teamed up with Sunreturn to release Big Summer Blowout and would go on to perform at Newtown Festival and support Aussie legends Regurgitator.
With the impending release of a new album before the end of the year Cindy rark up with the new single ‘All The Nice People’.
Slamming on the gas from the get go, Cindy channels 90s sludge while Gloria Florence & Scott Brown trade harmonies learning that collaboration, criticism and vulnerability. ‘All The Nice People’ was recorded direct to tape by Dareen McShane at Earwig Studios before being mixed & mastered by Steven Marr (known for his work with Doprah, Kane Stang & Ben Woods).
“I wrote the song about taking constructive criticism,” reflects Gloria. “I can be defensive sometimes and my instinct is to brush off feedback because it’s hard to hear. But working with Scott and James on this album has forced me to trust their input creatively. This is my first time contributing to a band and writing songs that are for more than just myself to play so it was a really eye opening experience. Letting myself be open with other musicians has definitely improved my playing and writing. Now I just need to learn to be less standoffish in general.”
Gloria’s lyrics in the verses widen the lens outward, showing gratitude toward the collaborators, friends and audience. “’All The Nice People’ is a tribute to all the people who have supported us as a band, the people who come to our shows and bring the energy, the other musicians who work with us, our friends and whanau who offer their time and attention. It’s an incredible feeling to be on stage performing but it’s also very scary and intense – it’s not possible to do this alone.”
“When I meet people who match my freak, it makes me so happy. I love the people who come to the gigs and give their energy. I am so thankful. Music is such a beautiful way to build community.”
“I hope people can hear the duality of the song. The need for approval but also the self confidence that can co-exist in one person at one time. This song is definitely for the girlies and the grungy leaning folks.”
‘All The Nice People’ is taken from Cindy’s forthcoming album, due out via Sunreturn & 1:12 Records before the end of 2026.
