On the back of a sold out show at Wellington’s Moon last month, Aotearoa’s rock outfit Wet Denim release their latest single ‘Silence’ out now.
Stepping away from the driving rock energy that has defined their previous projects, ‘Silence’ reveals a new dimension of the band, embracing a slower-burn and emotionally charged soundscape that showcases the depth and versatility of their songwriting. Produced by Ben O’Leary of multi-platinum New Zealand band Drax Project, the track captures a feeling that is difficult to place but instantly familiar.
“First experiences can leave long-lasting impressions, especially first experiences of love. Silence is a song about love, and the feelings of loneliness and loss when a first romantic attachment drifts away.” – Wet Denim
That feeling of isolation is captured in the track’s accompanying music video, shot in one-take on a late night in freezing waters around Wellington.
Their acclaimed 2026 single ‘Living Room’ introduced a refreshed and ambitious direction for the band and now ‘Silence’ opens the door of this new era even further, proving Wet Denim to be a band unafraid to challenge their creative palette whilst staying true to their beloved sound.
Wet Denim will play RNZ Afternoon’s NZ Live on Friday 19 June. Listen live from 2.00pm at rnz.co.nz
