Auckland-based songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist Evie Bamford is excited to announce her debut EP Now Rising, Now Falling, arriving 1 September 2026. The six-track collection will be preceded by its final single, ‘Daily Bread,’ releasing on 30 June.

The announcement follows a breakthrough year for Evie, whose recent single ‘Through the Day’ reached #1 on the 95bFM Top Ten, #2 on the NZ RadioScope Alternative Airplay Chart and #20 on the Official Aotearoa Music Charts Hot 20 Singles. Follow-up release ‘Company’ earned editorial playlist support on Apple Music’s New In Alternative and was accompanied by Bamford’s debut music video.

Drawing influence from contemporary indie artists while embracing a distinctly live and organic approach to songwriting, Evie has steadily built a reputation for emotionally honest lyricism and richly detailed arrangements. As a self-produced artist and multi-instrumentalist, her music blends indie rock and folk textures, balancing intimate storytelling with expansive, layered instrumentation.

Now Rising, Now Falling brings together songs Evie has been performing live with her band for over a year, allowing the material to evolve and connect with audiences long before its official release. During this time she has cultivated a dedicated local following and shared stages with artists including Jazmine Mary and Serebii.

Across six tracks, the EP explores anxiety, self-worth, relationships and resilience, documenting a period of growing up through warm, intricately arranged indie rock. The project captures the emotional push and pull reflected in its title.

‘Daily Bread’ stands as the emotional centrepiece of the EP and is Bamford’s most vulnerable release to date. Written during a period of intense anxiety and self-comparison, the song confronts the cycle of body dysmorphia and spiralling thoughts while searching for a sense of self-acceptance.

Blending lush electric guitar, warm keyboards and rich layers of clarinet, trumpet and synths, the track unfolds with a gentle melancholy that gradually builds in intensity and emotional weight. As the arrangement swells, ‘Daily Bread’ reaches a sweeping, highly textured bridge centred around the repeated refrain, “I have nothing to be so scared about” — a moment of hard-won clarity that reframes the song’s fears and uncertainties.

Evie shares:

It’s scary to put out a song written in some dark moments, but I’m hopeful that people who have struggled with anxiety and beauty standards will relate to the message. To me, the bridge became an affirmation. When I can’t stop ruminating, I remind myself that I’m safe and have nothing to be so scared about.
