Aotearoa roots-reggae powerhouse, Corrella, return with their powerful new single ‘Not I’. Led by a commanding vocal performance from Ngawai Campbell (Ngāi Te Rangi, Ngāti He, Ngāti Pukenga) – the voice of Corrella’s hit track ‘How Will I Know’ – Not I’ is a defiant anthem of resistance, resilience and standing strong in the face of pressure. Built around the rallying cry ‘Not I’, the track speaks to a world shaped by broken systems, false promises and the need to hold your ground when everything around you feels unstable.
Opening with the striking line, “It’s better to die on your feet than to live on your knees,” ‘Not I’ immediately sets its tone. Across urgent verses and a powerful, chant-like chorus, Corrella deliver a message of strength and refusal – refusing to bow, refusing to be silenced, and refusing to give in when the world is falling. Built around trademark high-energy horns, the track is dripping with attitude, effortlessly combining reggae and pop to create another instantly memorable release.
The single continues Corrella’s evolution as one of Aotearoa’s most exciting contemporary reggae acts, combining their signature live energy with a heavier lyrical edge. With Ngawai’s lead vocal at the centre, ‘Not I’ balances political urgency with the band’s unmistakable melodic strength, creating a track built for both the stage and the airwaves.
‘Not I’ marks another major step in Corrella’s next chapter, following on from the single ‘Under The Covers’ and arriving after several festival appearances in Australia. Just announced to be appearing at the inaugural 8TH WONDER Festival in January in Rotorua and Brisbane, expect more music from Corrella to come as they get set to take their live show back on the road.
