Te Whanganui-a-Tara based group Shivers released their last single ‘Look At ‘Em Now‘ on the 19th of March 2024. This new single has quite a few different feels and flavours to it and Shivers believe the song will add nicely to their body of work.

‘Look At ‘Em Now’ was written about a person who against all odds overcame many adversities, broke the cycle of intergenerational trauma and rose above real struggle and hardship to become someone of huge courage, strength, inspiration and mana.

I’m in absolute awe of this remarkable person and their journey and wanted this story to be told and expressed through song to not only celebrate this courageous person that I admire but also as a way to give hope to others” says vocalist Timmy Porter.

‘Look At ‘Em Now’ was recorded and produced by Toby Lloyd (Rob Ruha, Hollie Smith, Shapeshifter) at Lee Prebbles iconic The Surgery Studios in Newtown, Wellington where the likes of L.A.B and The Blackseeds record all of their music.

The music video was directed by Ben Cushman and filmed above Breaker Bay on the South coast of Wellington which was chosen for it’s historical and cultural significance to members of Shivers.

The kawau/shag in the cover art is a motif for tenacity and perseverance. There are several whakataukī around the bird including the way it stretches it’s neck when it’s preparing for flight and used to describe a person preparing for battle,” says designer Camilla Lau of Māori-owned independent publisher HUIA.

Shivers love the journey of bringing music, with meaning, to life. Their aesthetic and sound is one that can be easily embraced by a wide audience due to its foundations in soul, roots and pop music and their super accessible and memorable melodies and hooks.

They are continuing their momentum with this new single and are focused on their big goals and future in music. Alongside this new release ‘Look At ‘Em Now’, Shivers are working towards their debut E.P. and soon to release their first song in te reo.
