Today’s Video of the Day is a special live session debut by Tāmaki Makaurau based promoter duo and content creators Midnight Mothers. Joining them for their first session is multi-talented artist, Kédu.

Aimed at highlighting the diverse and irreplaceable music of Aotearoa, Midnight Mothers are launching a series of live recorded sessions. Recorded at the timeless Cordial Studios located on the North Shore, their first session showcases Kédu’s evocative song writing skills and transcendental vocals as she performs her latest release ‘Every Day’.

Kédu’s band beautifully translates the smooth yet emotive nature of Kédu’s music throughout the video. They perform her unreleased track ‘Wanna Go’ off her upcoming EP as well as a beloved cover of ‘Crush’ by Jennifer Paige.

Kédu, otherwise known as Jess Penson, is a multi-faceted musician who has explored many aspects of her musicality throughout her career. She began her musical journey as a member of the RnB girl group Techniclr before venturing into electronic music as one half of the producer, DJ, and live electronic performance duo Kédu Carlö. Her eclectic taste in music is reflected in her sound, which draws from genres such as Jazz, Soul and RnB, as well as her love for electronic soundscapes and synth based music.

Kédu has had the opportunity to perform with artists such as Nathan Haines and Flamingo Pier, showcasing her versatility as a musician and her ability to adapt to different styles. Kédu’s most recent release ‘Every Day’ is a self-produced gem, taking listeners on an immersive journey that invokes the essence of nostalgic summer romance. With her unique blend of genres, Kédu creates a sound that is both familiar and fresh, making her a distinctive and exciting artist.
