Video of the Day: Anthonie Tonnon – ‘Entertainment’

Today’s Video of the Day is from 2022 Taite Music Prize Winner: Anthonie Tonnon. ‘Entertainment’ is an out-of-this-world fever dream from his award-winning album Leave Love Out Of This.

Anthonie isn’t afraid to point the finger in ‘Entertainment’: unpacking ideas of celebrity and industry that compromise artistry. Video masterminds Sports Team spun the video to life, with Anthonie literally making sparks fly.

Within the video is Wellington designed sequencer, synthesizer, sampler, drum machine and more: The Synthstrom Deluge. Anthonie has been one of the many avid users of the Synthstrom Deluge since its creation. Released in 2015 by local engineer Rohan Hill, the Synthstrom Deluge has forged many admirers at home and abroad. Rohan Hill has since founded Synthstrom Audible: a New Zealand owned boutique electronics manufacturer from Te Whanganui-a-Tara.

This afternoon, Wellington Museum will be hosting ‘Deluge: Dialogue and Demo’ in honour of New Zealand Music Month. At 2PM, Rohan Hill will share his start up-to-global success story of the Deluge. The kōrero will then be followed by an interactive performance from Sonorous Circle’s Thomas Arbor featuring the Deluge. For more details, check out the event page here.

Let Anthonie blast you into a frenzy of innovation and tune in āpōpō (and every day of New Zealand Music Month) for a new Video of the Day!
