Auckland’s Dazzling New Christmas Tree Illuminated in Te Komititanga

Auckland’s city centre was aglow with festive cheer on Saturday evening as the city’s spectacular new Christmas tree, Te Manaaki, was officially illuminated in Te Komititanga, the vibrant central square on Lower Queen Street.

An audience of over 2,500 gathered for a magical evening of free entertainment, hosted by beloved MC Anika Moa. The night featured soulful performances by Tami Neilson and her band and an uplifting set from an octet of the Auckland Youth Choir, culminating in a crowd countdown led by Moa. At the climactic moment, Tami Neilson switched on the dazzling lights of Te Manaaki, marking the tree’s debut.

A stunning gift to Auckland from Heart of the City and Precinct Properties, with support from Auckland Council via the city centre targeted rate, Te Manaaki stands an impressive 18.4 metres tall. It is adorned with over 10,000 sparkling LED lights, 4,000 pōhutukawa flowers, and 200 giant baubles, creating an enchanting and uniquely Kiwi spectacle.

Te Manaaki will continue to spread holiday magic each evening with a 5-minute light show, running from 6:00pm to 10:00pm, now through 5 January.
