Raging Flowers releases her song ‘Tissue Paper’, which is a humorous song about depression. ‘Tissue Paper’ won the first prize in Out From The Mist 2024, an international arts competition for mental health awareness based in Brisbane.
Unlike Raging Flowers’ usual songs which are produced by herself with programmed drums and her one-woman band, ‘Tissue Paper’ is produced by her mentor, Steph Brown, and Fen Ikner from LIPS.
‘Tissue Paper’ was written during the 2024 APRA Aotearoa Mentorship Programme, where Amy Shuang Wang (Raging Flowers) was mentored by Steph Brown (LIPS). After hearing the demo, Steph kindly offered to help to produce this song.
According to Amy, recording with LIPS felt like Christmas. The three musicians got together and recorded this song in a single take. Amy believed it was a practice run, since they had never played music together before. But when she tried to take it seriously on the second take, it didn’t sound as good. So they went with the first take.
‘Tissue Paper’ was written during a period of two weeks where Raging Flowers couldn’t do much other than crying and sleeping. Writing Tissue Paper helped her move through difficult feelings much more quickly. She was able to recover after the song was written. Raging Flowers hopes that this song can help others move through challenging times too.
Tissue Paper is released on 7 Feb 2025 on all streaming platforms.
