Tauranga-based psychedelic synth-punk solo artist We Will Ride Fast is the musical alter-ego of singer/multi-instrumentalist and multimedia artist Kyle Sattler (formerly of Whanganui band Frayden).

Following a run of extremely well-received singles in 2024, We Will Ride Fast’s post-punk ontological Investigations continue into 2025 with the release of new single ‘Dream Eater From Mars’.

Inspired by the writings of Michael Chion in his seminal book Audio-Vision: Sound On Screen (1994), ‘Dream Eater From Mars’ makes reference to the introduction of sound into film, and how the ‘soundtrack’ is now of vital importance to our cinematic experience.

During the heyday of sound in film, the notion of how to enhance the story ‘aurally’ was ad hoc, and compounded by stereo reproduction being in its infancy.

Whereas now, through highly technical sound manipulation, we can be transported temporally and spatially. This sound manipulation is now so concise and embedded that many are unaware of its unique power to transcend space and time.

Sattler’s creative DIY approach continues with the music video for ‘Dream Eater From Mars’, which features the character We Will Ride Fast as a racecar driver, pursuing glory via a hand-painted racetrack , and a number of toy cars.

We Will Ride Fast plays the fabled Loserpalooza Festival in Tauranga on 21 June, and follows up at Tāmaki Makaurau’s Audio Foundation July 11.
