From Idea to Stage

From Idea to Stage is a six-part module, guiding young songwriters through the musical journey from concept to completion.

This resource came together during our 2026 Matariki Wānanga, where four musicians Arahi, EDYONTHEBEAT, Nicola Mitchell and Rebel Reid came together to write, arrange, and rehearse an original song from a blank page through to a live performance. The result is a seven-part video series that pulls back the curtain on how professional songwriters actually work: finding inspiration, building a concept, wrestling with lyrics, arranging a band, rehearsing, and finally taking a song to the stage.

Alongside the videos, we’ve built a companion workbook, so classes can follow the same process with a song of their own. From a ‘Blank Page’ to ‘The Final Performance’!

Worksheet 1 Meet the Whānau is available now and introduces each of the four musicians with a bio and research prompt. Keep an eye out for additional worksheets in our next newsletter.
