Nelson whānau – Going Local is hitting your tāone i tēnei Rāhoroi on 25th of November 2023 at 3:30pm – and it is free!!

If you’ve ever wanted to know more about the music industry – how it works, who to talk to, what you need, why things happen and where you should look for help – hear it, ask it and discuss it first-hand with industry professionals right at the Nelson Centre of Musical Arts.

Independent Music NZ (IMNZ) presents a networking & seminar session called Going Local happening for the first time in Nelson this November. It’s an informal way for you to meet with some established people already working in the music industry, who can offer advice and knowledge that will help to answer some of those questions above. It is also a chance for us to get to know you and hear about your own sound and vision for the future.

The Going Local Nelson Speakers are:

Dylan Pellett – General Manager, Independent Music NZ
Cath Andersen – Chief Executive, NZ Music Commission
Sarah Thomson – Music Funding Advisor, NZ On Air
Sarah Illingworth – Communications Specialist, Recorded Music NZ

The panel session is generally open-ended – you are free to ask the speakers about anything music related.

GOING LOCAL NELSON PROGRAMME – 25 NOVEMBER FROM 3:30PM – ALL FREE ENTRY
3.30pm – 5.30pm: One-to-One Meetings – you have the opportunity for 20 min meetings with individual speakers of your choice. Bookings are required in advance (email to dylan@indies.co.nz with a very short bio and who would you like to meet to book a one-to-one meeting)
5.30pm – 6.30pm: Going Local Panel Discussion session with all speakers
6.30pm – 8.00pm: Dinner Break
8.00pm – 10.00pm: Going Local Showcase at the Johnny Cash Room at NMIT featuring artists Malaika Hollis, JOLA BURNS and Parallel Park – free entry & open to the public

Previous sessions have been held in Dunedin, Whangarei, Christchurch, Wellington, Invercargill, Hamilton, Palmerston North, Gisborne and Auckland.
