Support Plan Change 21 – Protect Live Music in Christchurch

Independent Music Venues Aotearoa is calling for public support of Plan Change 21, a proposal by Christchurch City Council to introduce higher noise limits that will help safeguard the future of live music venues.
As urban areas densify, it’s crucial that planning rules and noise provisions reflect the needs of cultural spaces. Without these protections, we risk unintentionally silencing the vibrant nightlife and music ecosystem that defines our cities.
Since 2022, IMVA has been working closely with member venues and the Christchurch City Council to address these challenges. Plan Change 21 represents a vital step forward – recognising live music venues as essential cultural infrastructure and creating a fair balance between residents and nightlife.
We need our music community to show up and support Christchurch City Council’s continued efforts to implement PC21.
