ASHY Teams Up With Nashville’s Jarrod Gipson for Sultry New Single ‘Sweeter’

New Zealand’s rising pop and R&B sensation ASHY returns with ‘Sweeter‘, a lush, late-night anthem that fuses soulful vocals with sultry production. Featuring Nashville rapper and genre-blurring artist Jarrod Gipson, ‘Sweeter’ is now available on all DSPs and marks the next release from ASHY’s highly anticipated project, Gone Rogue.
Written during a post-SXSW 2024 writing trip to Nashville, ‘Sweeter’ emerged from a creative spark with producer Aaron Wagner and Gipson. The track captures a moment of vulnerability, confidence, and desire — a sonic departure from her earlier work that leans into her R&B influences.
“I’m a massive fan of R&B — artists like SZA, Ariana Grande, Victoria Monét, and Kali Uchis really inspire me,” says ASHY. “This song was born out of a special night in Nashville and the feeling that you have to open yourself up to any possibility. That city made me feel like I belonged.”
Jarrod Gipson, signed to Lukas Keller’s Milk & Honey (home to Grammy winners David Hodges, Sebastian Kole, Finn Keane), brings his genre-fluid artistry to the track — drawing comparisons to Mac Miller, Post Malone, and Justin Timberlake.
‘Sweeter’ follows the success of her 2024 singles ‘Ottoman‘, ‘Gucci & Louis‘ and the acclaimed Drax Project remake ‘All This Time‘, featured on the New Zealand TV series Beyond The Beat and praised for its emotional depth and reimagination.
ASHY’s trajectory continues to climb, with global performances at SXSW Texas (2023 & 2024), SXSW Sydney, The Great Escape UK, and support slots for Drax Project across New Zealand. Her debut EP Status debuted at #1 on the Official NZ Charts with standout single ‘No Man’s Land‘ and was named one of Rolling Stone Australia’s Top 25 Albums of the Year.
With syncs in Grown-ish and Home and Away, a Recording Academy membership, and a partnership as a Shure Artist Ambassador, ASHY is cementing her place as an international artist-to-watch — one boundary-pushing single at a time.
