Auckland underground artists rede. & Smurgy come together to release their most effortless collaboration yet.

On ‘Bags‘, an instrumental of glistening midi strings, lofi pads and earnest vocal chops juxtaposed by tight clicky drums, lay the foundation for Smurgy’s stream of consciousness vocal performance about moving on from the past. This release provides a sonic contrast from the pair’s previous releases, taking a more minimalist production approach as opposed to recent collaborations on maximalist alternative pop tracks ‘Press(sure)‘ [Smurgy] & ‘God is The DJ‘ [boyracer].

Bags is a non album single that looks to hold over listeners as rede. and Smurgy prepare to release their debut albums its a miracle anything gets done and ABSOLUTE respectively.

rede. is a producer, songwriter and audio engineer from Tāmaki Makaurau, Aotearoa, whose work spans alternative pop, hip hop, electronic and indie music. Since emerging from Auckland’s independent scene, he has collaborated with artists including Tyson Ritter (The All American Rejects), Dev Lemons, Sebii, Melodownz, Hyan, Rita Mae and CRYSTAL, while also contributing production assistance to Aries. rede. has built a reputation for crafting emotionally resonant, genre defying records that bridge underground innovation with broad appeal.

Smurgy is an experimental pop artist producer hailing from Ōtautahi, currently based in Tāmaki Makaurau. His work spans across genres such as dance, ambient, experimental and hyperpop. Weaving these threads together is a passion for pop songwriting and for endless discovery within the creative process. Smurgy is heavily influenced by an array of forward thinking producers like Sega Bodega, A.G. Cook, and NEW YORK and is determined to push the envelope of experimental music forward locally and abroad.
