Bakers Eddy hurtle into 2026 with a song designed to lift everyone’s spirits and keep vibes high throughout the summer and beyond. Iconic anthem ‘Steal My Sunshine’, originally released by Len in 1999, summed up the disillusionment of a generation, but wrapped it up with a hefty dose of hedonism. Bakers Eddy covered this song as they recognised this feeling in their peers today and so contacted pop artist merci, mercy to provide the sweet salve to the punk chaos of the track.
Led by charismatic Ngati Porou Ngati Tuwharetoa frontman Ciarann Babbington, and rounded out by childhood friends Jamie Gordon (drums) and twin brothers Ian (bass) and Alex Spagnolo (guitar), Bakers Eddy formed in Wellington NZ, before relocating to Melbourne Aus in order to focus 100% on their music.
After releasing their debut album Love Boredom Bicycles in 2022, the band spent the following 18 months moving between extensive touring schedules, identity-shaping writing sessions, and meaningful conversations.
The result of this was their I’m Doing Better EP, released in June 2025, which yielded the singles ‘Manners Street’, ‘Dust On My Brain’ and ‘Hopeless Dreams’.
The EP took them to the US where they played to packed rooms at SXSW and New Colossus, before returning to Australia to play sold out shows in Melb and Sydney, performing to their ever growing passionate fanbase, who showed their love by turning up with fresh Bakers Eddy tattoos, custom nail art and DIY Bakers Eddy merch.
