Creative New Zealand’s Next Chief Executive Announced

Gretchen la Roche has been appointed as the next Chief Executive of Creative New Zealand.
Kent Gardner, Chair of the Arts Council of New Zealand Toi Aotearoa, made the announcement this morning. He expressed the Council’s delight at appointing someone who brings such strong skills and experience to the role.
Gretchen is well known and respected in the arts sector. She is currently Executive Director at The Court Theatre and has held senior leadership roles in several arts organisations, including a fixed-term role here.
Stephen Wainwright has served as Chief Executive since 2006, having first joining Creative New Zealand in 1990.
Details of Stephen’s farewell and Gretchen’s start date are being finalised but are likely to be April and May 2025.
