Emily Bateman Shares Exquisite EP, Like I Always Do

Tāmaki Makaurau’s Emily Bateman is developing her own musical world, and is proud to finally share her delicately beautiful 5-track EP, Like I Always Do, co-produced by celebrated engineer and drummer Tom Broome. Bursting with ethereal vocals and introspective lyricism, her music has been described as “Undeniably nostalgic” (Happy Magazine, 2023).

Drawing inspiration from artists such as Lana Del Rey, Big Thief and Mazzy Star, Emily skillfully blends folk, pop and rock elements to craft dreamy ballads and indie-pop numbers, bringing them to life with the help of instrumentalists Chip Matthews, Rafael Hannah, Tom Broome, Otis Christoffersen and Jesse Schroder-Smale.

Like I Always Do is a collection of songs centered around adolescence, love and nostalgia, and the stories we tell to ourselves that ultimately keep us stagnant and self-involved. Emily explores her own self-mythology throughout the EP, in tracks ‘I’ve Always Been This Way‘ and ‘You’re On Your Own, Kid‘, and comes to a more enlightened place with lead single ‘October Sun‘ (co-written with Dave Rowlands). Unlearning deeply held beliefs about ourselves and others, she sings, ‘I learnt you weren’t the biggest star I’d ever see’. In a moment of clarity, she separates herself from the muse she was enamoured by just a few moments before, in ‘Sunday Best‘.

Like I Always Do will be available on all digital platforms from Friday 24th May, 2024.
