Auckland alternative rock band Hangar 18 have released their brand-new single ‘Mary Mainly Mandy’, featuring special guest Oliver Wakeman, the acclaimed keyboard player and son of legendary Yes keyboard virtuoso Rick Wakeman.

Released through DO IT Records, ‘Mary Mainly Mandy’ sees Hangar 18 delivering another dose of melodic, guitar-driven rock, combining classic rock sensibilities with a contemporary edge. For Hangar 18 songwriter, drummer and manager Paul Marshall, the collaboration with Oliver Wakeman has a particularly personal history.

“It’s a very interesting story how I first met Oliver years ago, when we played in the same band in England. To now have him playing on a Hangar 18 release is pretty special.”

‘Mary Mainly Mandy’ was produced by acclaimed British producer Steve James, the Grammy-nominated and ARIA Award-winning producer whose extensive credits include work associated with George Harrison, Paul Young, The Jam, The Sex Pistols and Weta, among many others.

Hangar 18 have been building an international profile since forming in Auckland, with the band bringing together musicians from different musical backgrounds and international experience. Their music has previously taken them across New Zealand, Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, the Philippines, Malaysia, China and Macau, while their catalogue continues to attract attention beyond New Zealand.

The band has also attracted significant international music-industry interest, including from veteran New York A&R executive Jason Jordan. Jordan has held senior A&R positions with Hollywood Records and Columbia Records and later became VP of A&R at Symphonic. In 2021, Hangar 18 announced an international record deal following Jordan’s interest in the band’s music.

‘Mary Mainly Mandy’ follows a series of recent Hangar 18 releases and continues the band’s push to take their distinctive blend of alternative, pop and rock to an international audience.
