Indie-Folk Singer/Songwriter Becca Caffyn Welcomes New Era with Stunning Track ‘Caroline’

Recorded on a vintage Gibson J45 acoustic guitar, Becca Caffyn’s tell-all track ‘Caroline’ details the conflicting feelings of unexpectedly falling in love following the conclusion of a long-term relationship.
Solo-written by Caffyn and produced by Will McGillivray (Goodwill, There’s A Tuesday, Mim Jensen), the song cured a two and a half year long spell of writer’s block, putting into words mounting feelings that Caffyn had never before been able to articulate. Ultimately about Caffyn’s self-perception and fear of her own evolution, the track interrogates the complexities of romantic relationships, and the way that these interactions expose the limits of the relationship that we have with ourselves.
In the midst of experiencing situations that would’ve upset a hopelessly-romantic younger version of herself, the chorus sees the singer-songwriter confess “I’m so disappointing to the girl I’ve outgrown”, speaking to the struggle of letting go of who you once thought you would be in the process of becoming who you are.
‘Caroline’ is the first single from Caffyn’s upcoming EP, Isn’t It Romantic?, due for release on December 4th.
An exercise in catharsis, the Isn’t It Romantic? EP is the by-product of navigating a tumultuous and intense new romance following the demise of Caffyn’s first relationship. The third EP from New Zealand-born London-based singer-songwriter Becca Caffyn, Isn’t It Romantic? showcases a more evolved, full-band sound, whilst retaining her trademark autobiographical lyrical style.

Becca Caffyn is nothing if not honest. Both in her confessional lyrics, akin to journal entries, and her accompanying persona, Becca Caffyn wears her heart on her sleeve.
Blending introspective bedroom folk with the indie pop sensibilities of the likes of Lizzy McAlpine, Phoebe Bridgers, and Julia Jacklin, the singer-songwriter crafts gentle melodies and writes with prescient clarity, detailing stories of heartbreak, growing pains, and simply missing your mum.
Cutting her teeth in Dunedin’s iconic live music scene while at University, Caffyn has taken the stage all around New Zealand, supporting acts such as The Rions, Frankie Venter, Borderline, Letters to Lions and Mim Jensen and landing gigs such as the Dunedin Craft Beer and Food Festival, and UCSA & OUSA Orientation Weeks. Accompanying these performances, Caffyn has also released two EPs, ‘The Replacement Blonde’ (2022) and ‘Hallways’ (2024), with the title track of the latter winning an Aotearoa Alternative Award for Radio One’s Favourite Song of 2024.
Whether solo or accompanied by her sparkling band, Caffyn captures attention with her candid lyricism and keeps it with her endearing on-stage wit, both born out of an unwillingness, or at times an inability, to not say exactly what is on her mind. Caffyn lays her soul bare, exploring complex and weighty emotions she never intends on sharing in songs she inevitably ends up releasing, all while retaining her signature tongue-in-cheek charm.
Originally hailing from Aotearoa New Zealand, the now London based singer-songwriter is gearing up for a busy remainder of the year, releasing a song a month from August through to December of 2026.
